Kenneth L. Maddy graduated from Fresno State College (now California State University, Fresno) in 1957. He served in the California Legislature from 1970 to 1998, where he compiled a distinguished record of public service. In recognition of this, the State Senate passed SB733 in 1999, establishing the Kenneth L. Maddy Institute for Public Policy at California State University, Fresno. Kenneth Maddy (1934-2000) served as a Republican member of the California Assembly for the 32nd District from 1970 to 1978, and as Senator from the 14th Senatorial District from 1979 to 1998. He campaigned for Governor in 1978. From 1987 to 1995 he served as Republican Leader of the State Senate. He also was a delegate to four Republican national conventions, twice being designated as whip of the California delegation.
